Why is new housing needed in Peacehaven?
Housing figures are decided by National Government and Peacehaven must build 255 new homes by 2030.
Where will they be built?
East Saltdean and Telscombe are already fully built and Telscombe Tye is within the South Downs National Park and is common land. So that leaves Peacehaven where there are still two potential large sites and a few small (over 6 homes).
The Meridian Site
The Meridian Site is assessed as having potential for a minimum 100 homes. A recent assessment shows that by building taller buildings 300 to 400 homes could be built.
The Coast Road
There are also a number of blocks of flats built along the Coast Road which will reduce down the 255 target including homes planned for Webb’s Yard. The Valley Road in North Peacehaven is also a potential site, however there are constraints on the area.
Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP)
A neighbourhood plan is being prepared which will ensure there are protections and safeguards so that developers can only build where the community decide.
